Press Release - Post Christmas and New Year ‘Gut Horror ’ Health Coach Available for Quotes and Interviews.

Scott Mathias - Tuesday, December 27, 2011

Scott Mathias is approaching 60!!

He doesn’t need any pharmaceuticals to control or ‘hide’ the real reasons for blood pressure, diabetes, obesity or digestive issues leading to a poor quality of life. Scott is a trained Integrative Nutrition Health and RAW Food Coach. In fact he is 100% RAW – both a health and lifestyle choice.

Based near Noosa, North of Brisbane, Scott shares his wisdom with clients and members of the public through his iLifeFoods stand at the Noosa Farmers Market, his health coaching and his RAW food coaching sessions. He is also very active through his FaceBook presence.  The basis of his wisdom is his own brush with chronic digestive issues leading to years of acid reflux, indigestion, heartburn and hiatal muscle breakdown and how he healed himself and became his own Doctor.

The former Network news journalist and Mass Communications Consultant with one of the original ‘Big Five’ groups, now devotes his time to helping people of all ages through the ever changing and confusing health and nutrition minefield.

‘Everyone I am speaking with these days has some kind of health issue. They know if they run off to the Doctor they will most likely be prescribed a pharmaceutical which masks the original reason for the ailment and may in some cases exacerbate a simply corrected condition bought on as a result of poor diet.  I help people understand how they can access new options and begin to heal the body, mind and soul using quality internal and external nutrition. In Integrative Nutrition terms we call this Primary and Secondary Food’, says Scott Mathias.

‘Post Christmas and New Year is the time of the year when most damage occurs to the digestive function when too much mainly animal protein is forced into the body, drops largely unprocessed into the intestine and starts to rot, causing unnecessary and avoidable increases in body acid levels’.

‘Simple and conscious actions on behalf of the person suffering can quickly change the body from heavily acid back to the 80/20 Alkaline/Acid balance’

Scott is an articulate advocate of supremely good health and leads by example. He is available for on-camera or phone interviews anywhere in Australia. He is available by calling his mobile 0423 353 109 or by email: [email protected]. Scott is also available for quick and simple RAW food demonstrations.

GOING RAW – Appetiser HiRise2

Scott Mathias - Wednesday, November 09, 2011

By Scott Mathias Integrative Health Coach and Creator of iLifeFoods.com

Those of you contemplating moving toward a completely 100% Raw diet need not fear that life will become boring. For me the transition has been beyond anything I could describe – inspirational, illuminating and uplifting.

I can feel my complete cellular body enjoys being filled with powerful plant phyto-energies. I feel the new relationship I have with RAW is enabling me to live life in a completely different paradigm; FREE from the need to be, think or act like anyone else. I feel going RAW has enabled me to begin to live my individual form based on new and inspired ideals firmly anchored in my natural relationship with all things of nature.

I sense my DNA is changing to accommodate my original state of true self.

More on this as I bring recipes forward for your contemplation and above all, sheer enjoyment. RAW is tasty and alive!!

Here is my Appetiser HiRise which frankly is more than a tasty meal for one person let alone the four who shared this recently here at RAWHQ!!

 This HiRise2 comprises 5 layers.

The base is seed bread which I make in my dehydrator – 2 cups sunflower seeds, ¼ cup flax or linseed, 1 small onion, ¼ cup sundried or dehydrated tomatoes, 1/4 cup soaked almonds, 2 tablespoons Shoyu or Tamari – Blend until paste like. Add a few drops of water to achieve paste consistency. Lay out on heat proof board or paper and score into snack size bites.

Place in warm oven or dehydrator no more than 110F for approx 7 hrs.

First layer from the bottom Carrot and cauliflower simple Kimchi – slice carrot and cauliflower  into bite size pieces and stuff into an ‘French clamp’ jar (the pull own and seal variety but a vercola will do) fill jar to just cover the vegetables with apple cider vinegar. Leave on the kitchen bench for 3-4 days until when you open the jar you get a ‘sweet ferment’ aroma. Place in the fridge or do what I do and ‘go all the way’ and leave it out until totally consumed. In this case I placed into my bullet blender which is ideal for doing small portions and ground down.

Second layer from the bottom Simple pesto but I make it with coriander and walnuts. Coriander is great for helping to remove heavy metals from the body and walnut is very alkalising or the body. I keep a tub in my refrigerator all the time.

Third layer from bottom I placed three good tablespoons of my dehydrated tomatoes into my bullet blender and reduced to paste and added the next layer to the mould.

Finally the top layer The other thing I have always available is avocado cream or guacamole. Scoop out the flesh of 2 avocados and drop it into your blender. Add the juice of two limes. Add a handful of coriander. Half a chilli and some Sea or lake salt and pepper from North Queensland!!

Then place all the elements layer by layer into your stainless steel mould. Use the little ‘tamper tool’ provided to get the layers even. In this case I garnished with chopped purples cabbage to off set the colours!! I like to serve all my Raw food on white plates and garnish accordingly.

The final move really ‘honours’ the food that has offered itself up for your nourishment.

Here is the other version I do. I call this HiRise1!

Same approach as the HiRise2. make pastes of anything you have in your fridge including totally fresh carrot, tomato, radish or whatever you fancy. I serve with my dehydrated seed bread, some extra dried tomato and some pickles which adds a lovely savoury lavour to the vegetables.

Enjoying Raw food is exciting for me and it can be for you too. Its about disengaging from any of the traditional ways of preparing food. I have all I need – proteins, fats, carbs and vital ‘whole nutrients and vitamins and minerals. ENJOY experimenting!!

Would you like to learn how to make this ??

I feature these recipe in my ‘RAW In The Kitchen Experience' Message me if you'd like to be a part of a RAW food preparation experience.

Healing Benefits of Beetroot Proved!!

Scott Mathias - Thursday, September 08, 2011

The is a growing demand for more empirical evidence that ‘naturally grown’ fruit and vegetables play a major role in healing the body of basic to chronic ailments.

Common sense tells us that when we eat right our body reacts positively but in the production of ‘concentrated nutrient’ products we cannot say that the beetroot for-instance aids in the healing of the body of cancers or other dis-ease known to bring about cellular degradation.

However we can direct you, the informed and conscious reader to studies which support the notion that ‘good natural food=good natural health’. I posted the following study findings some time ago but feel its worthy now to update and repost.

Here are the details which supports that beetroot IS GOOD for you!!

A study undertaken by Austrian academics supports the role beetroot can play as an anti-inflammatory when treating the affects of cancer.

The study entitled :  In vitro Effects of Beet Root Juice on Stimulated and Unstimulated Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells attributed to :
1Christiana Winkler, 1Barbara Wirleitner, 1Katharina Schroecksnadel 2Harald Schennach and 1Dietmar Fuchs 1Division of Biological Chemistry, Biocentre, Innsbruck Medical University, Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of AIDS-Research, Innsbruck 2Central Institute of Blood Transfusion and Immunology, University Hospital.

Results of this study arrived at the following statement of conclusion:

Intake of fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants can reduce the incidence of cancer and coronary heart disease in humans. Exceptional antioxidant activity of beetroot extracts has been reported. Likewise in animal models, e.g., extracts of red beetroot Beta vulgaris var. rubra revealed significant tumour inhibitory effects. Red beetroot concentrate is universally permitted as a food ingredient. In this study, effects of a commercially available beetroot juice on freshly isolated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells stimulated with the mitogens phytohaemagglutinin and concanavalin A were investigated in vitro. Tryptophan degradation and neopterin formation were monitored in culture supernatants to determine effects of test substances on immunobiochemical pathways which both are induced by the pro-inflammatory cytokine interferon-g. Compared to unstimulated cells, the mitogens induced significant formation of neopterin and degradation of tryptophan which is reflected by increasing concentrations of kynurenine together with diminished tryptophan levels in supernatants. Addition of beetroot extracts significantly suppressed these mitogeninduced changes, e.g. the rate of neopterin production as well as tryptophan degradation was dosedependently suppressed.

Our data shows that beetroot extract is able to counteract pro-inflammatory cascades in peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Because inflammation is strongly involved in the development and progression of several clinical conditions including coronary heart disease and cancer, beneficial effect of beetroot extract may relate to this anti-inflammatory capacity.

An independent study undertaken in the US also showed the following in regards to the consumption of juice concentrates:

“In this study, using a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled design, of 117 healthy individuals, we showed that a fruit and vegetable concentrate resulted in an elevation in micronutrients (as measured by beta-carotene, vitamin C, and alpha-tocopherol) and reduced systemic inflammatory load,” wrote the researchers.

“Although the long-term implications of these findings are currently unknown, the close relationship between chronic inflammation and poor human health, suggests such a juice concentrate is a beneficial addition to the habitual diet in support of human health,” they added.

After 60 days of consuming the fruit and vegetable capsules, the researchers report a reduction in levels of Monocyte Chemotactic Protein-1 (MCP-1) of about 35 per cent, Macrophage Inflammatory Protein 1-beta (MIP-1b) of about 16 per cent, and Regulated upon Activation, Normal T cell Expressed and Secreted (RANTES) levels of about 21 per cent, compared with placebo.

“Systemic inflammatory load in humans is suppressed by consumption of two formulations of dried, encapsulated beetroot juice concentrate”

Australian based iLifeFoods.com has developed the VegeShot - Daily Wellness Drink containing beetroot, carrot, kale, mango and Australian Rain plum, itself a source of high levels of detectable anthocyanins also known to assist in reducing inflammation within the cellular structure.

While these overseas studies appear conclusive in their findings it is important to way up the benefits by adopting a regime of personal use which may support these findings.

CLICK HERE to buy the iLifeFoods VegeShot with Mango and Australian Rain Plum. Personally I take two sachets a day in 100mls of clean water. I notice the difference, especially in my energy levels and the distinct lack of pain in my body – obviously no inflammation.

Your cravings might be killing you?

Scott Mathias - Tuesday, August 23, 2011
What is it you are really needing in your life to satisfy an ‘physio-emotional’ need.

Look at the foods, deficits and behaviors in your life that are the underlying causes of your cravings. Many people view cravings as weakness, but really they are important messages meant to assist you in maintaining balance. When you experience a craving, deconstruct it. Ask yourself, what does my body want and why?

The eight primary causes of cravings are:

 1. Lack of primary food. Being dissatisfied with a relationship or having an inappropriate exercise routine (too much, too little or the wrong type), being bored, stressed, uninspired by a job, or lacking a spiritual practice may all cause emotional eating.

  2. Water. Lack of water can send the message that you are thirsty and on the verge of dehydration. Dehydration can manifest as a mild hunger, so the first thing to do when you get a craving is drink a full glass of water.

 3. Yin/yang imbalance. Certain foods have more yin qualities (expansive) while other foods have more yang qualities (contractive).

 4. Inside coming out. Often times, cravings come from foods that we have recently eaten, foods eaten by our ancestors, or foods from our childhood.

 5. Seasons. Often the body craves foods that balance the elements of the season.

6. Lack of nutrients. If the body has inadequate nutrients, it will produce odd cravings.

 7. Hormones. When women experience menstruation, pregnancy or menopause, fluctuating testosterone and estrogen levels may cause unique cravings.

 8. De-evolution. When things are going extremely well, sometimes a self-sabotage syndrome happens. We crave foods that throw us off, thus creating more cravings to balance ourselves.

From an integrative nutrition stand point the emotional relationship we have with food can either allow us to be fully rounded and satisfied human beings or ‘ humans going no-where’.

Sometimes too we might need to replace lost minerals from our biosystem too. For-instance a need for magnesium might be a craving for chocolate but rather than going down that slippery slope why not go after raw nuts and seeds, legumes, fruits which will not only meet the need for mag but also satisfy any sugar craving as well.

Phosphorous, sulfur, iron  and salt (NaCl) needs might send you off to coffee and tea yet a good and regular diet of chicken, beef, liver, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy, nuts, legumes along with seaweed, greens, black cherries might just be the answer. Without doubt food and emotions are linked.

Gut Confusion – Nutrient density gone mad!!

Scott Mathias - Wednesday, July 27, 2011

By Scott Mathias – Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Founder of iLifeFoods.com

Dense rich nutrients are not necessarily a good thing. They will confuse the ‘digestive brain’. After all food is just nutritional data programmed by nature to release to the body certain nutrients which it requires in order to maintain and sustain life.

Over-burden the gut with too much ‘data’ and it just will not recognise the value or worth of certain foods and excrete it right out the other end. Not only is this a waste of energy on the body’s behalf, it’s a total waste of money on your behalf. So too the carbon excesses which arise from wasted nutrients.

Take a look at the ingredient list of this un-named American superfood (read super-confused) product which contains nearly 100 ingredients, enzymes or derivatives. This is gut blowing stuff!!

Ingredients:

  • Orac-Intense Fruits & Berries: Juice and whole powders from: Acai, GojilWolfberry, Noni, Mangosteen, Blackberry, Blueberry, Bilberry, Elderberry, Cranberry, Raspberry, Black Currant, Pomegranate, Strawberry, Hawthorne Berry, Papaya, Acerola Cherry, Peach, Pineapple, Cherry, Orange, Lemon and Prune in a base of Apple, Purple Grape, Pear and Banana.
  • Nutrient-Dense Vegetable & Green Blend: Juice and whole powders from: Carrot, Beet, Barley Leaf, Alfalfa Leaf, Sweet Potato, Spinach, Asparagus, Brussels Sprout, Kale, Cauliflower, Dunaliella Salina, Broccoli, Cucumber, Celery, Bell Pepper, Wheat Leaf, Oat Leaf, Klamath Lake Algae, Spirulina, Chlorella, Kelp, Dulse, Cabbage, Tomato, Squash, and Parsley.
  • Seeds Plus: Chia Seed, Flax Seed, Pumpkin Seed, Brown Rice, Aloe Vera, SOD (superoxide dismutase) and Yucca.
  • ..and the list goes on to well over 100 single or derived ingredients…

The ingredients may sound quite fashionable and one might become quite excited by this veritable cocktail of goodies, but guess what? This ingredient list is like giving your laptop 100 commands at once and we know what would happen should this occur. The lap top freezes because it cannot sequentially process each command in a manner that enables you to get to .doc A or .doc B or file or folder X or Y, fast. Same happens in the gut. Over command and the gut goes into a state of ‘freeze’. It stops processing and instantly wants to ‘abort’ the nutritional commands you have over burdened it with and it starts to dump data as quickly as possible, right out of your bowel.

So my advice: ‘Simple is sound and self serving’. Eat also local foods which have been handled very little. That’s why buying from a farmers markets is a must nowadays.

Also take a look at a very ‘SIMPLE and SELF SERVING’ Australian SuperFood which is far from confused. The Australian Rain Plum is one of the ‘Princes of Australian functional foods’. It’s a red, ‘Pure red and only red’. Crystallised powder is derived from the Plum widely recognised for its health giving qualities.

The iLifeFoods AuraGold Farms Australian Rain Plum is the only brand of it’s kind which matches and in some nutritional categories,  exceeds, the mass media versions of Acai and Goji Berry and a recently released product from the ‘already under pressure Amazon Basin ecosystem, the Incaberry. Ok tongue in cheek but recent media suggested locals had been eating this for centuries. Well the Australian Rain Plum, or Ooray as it is known to local Aborigines, dates back tens of thousands of years, one of the oldest botanical genesis in Australia. It formed part of the nutritional intake of the Widjabul people who roamed around the back of Byron Bay in Australia’s Northern New South Wales.

The Rain Plum contains a staggering 8220mg/100g of the antioxidant Anthocyanin not to mention an array of other very powerful vitamins and minerals.

You can buy ‘Simple and Self Serving’ now with just ONE, yes ONE valuable ingredient; Australian Rain Plum. In fact when we undertook studies of the attributes of this Australian Superfruit the consulting scientist described the results as ‘extraordinary’ – more than 10X the Anthocyanin normally found in a Blueberry.

You may buy this amazing Australian Superfood now for use on its own, mixed with juices or added to smoothies or food.

The big difference between this SuperFood and others is YOU know where it comes from – here it is either wild harvested in a sustainably managed environment or orchard grown.

It is only sold online or through farmers markets on the South East of Queensland, Australia.

We know where this comes from and we know what it can do. We can’t tell you everything but I use it daily and dozens of our customers swear by it : OMG !!!

BUY NOW for immediate shipment to anywhere in the world or beyond!!

The Wonders of the Wild Cherry and Australian Rain Plum

Scott Mathias - Thursday, January 06, 2011
A growing body of science reveals cherries, enjoyed as either dried, frozen cherries or cherry juice, have among the highest levels of disease-fighting antioxidants, when compared to other fruits. They also contain other important nutrients such as beta carotene - 19 times more than blueberries or strawberries – VitC, potassium, magnesium, iron, fibre and folate.

Wild Cherry Shot with Australian Rain Plum™

Emerging evidence links cherries to many important health benefits – from helping to ease the pain of arthritis and gout, to reducing risk factors for heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers. Cherries also contain melatonin, which has been found to help regulate the body’s natural sleep patterns, aid with jet lag, prevent memory loss and delay the aging process.

A recent study from the University of Michigan reveals new evidence linking cherries to heart health benefits. The study found that a cherry-enriched diet lowered total weight, body fat (especially the important “belly” fat), inflammation and cholesterol-all risk factors associated with heart disease.

Rich in 100% sweet cherry and packed with deep red antioxidants - polyphenolics, flavonoids, anthocyanins-  high antioxidant capacity with ORAC 3220 TE units/100ml.

The wild harvested Australian Rain Plumtm contains 8220mg/100g anthocyanins, lutein and VIT E,  Folate, Zn, Mg, Ca, Mo.

iLifeFoods Australian Rain Plum contains 8220mg of anthocyanins per 100grams described by the study scientist as ‘extraordinary’. High levels of Myrtillin and Keracyanin were also found in sampling, both of these antioxidants are associated with managing serotonin and blood sugar levels. Antioxidants are known to work on all cellular levels.

Safe to use with blood pressure, lethargy & low energy levels, for immune related disorders, cardiovascular disease, arthritic pain, inflammation and macular health. A super-healthy high energy pure fruit juice crystal. Gluten and sugar free.
