Since posting a picture on the iLifeFoods FaceBookpage I have had numerous requests for the recipe of my famously delicious Spicy Pumpkin Soup.
OK..here is what you will need :
1 medium size pumpkin or the equivalent of a 1/8 slice of pumpkin per person cut into small pieces.
Macadamia oil (Olive will suffice)
1 large glove of garlic (chopped)
1 large onion (chopped)
1 Tablespoon of medium curry powder
¼ teaspoon mustard seeds
1 small red chilli
Sea salt for seasoning
Add the oil along with the aromatic condiments into a sauce pan and allow the onions to ‘sweat off’ (as they say on Master Chef). Then add the chopped pumpkin and allow to gently brown-off (my word) until you can get a nice ‘caramelly pumpkiny’ fragrance from the pot.
Add two glasses of water to leave about 4cm or an inch and a bit of pumpkin showing. Allow to simmer until the mixture thickens – normally about an hour or so. Once the pumpkin is cooked , taste and add sea salty as preferred.
Then place the cooled mixture into a blender or use a ‘bar mixed’ type blender to render the mixture to a thickish puree. Then finally plate –up , add some garlic chives to the top or coconut cream, as some one suggested and vola – you have a really tasty soup which might last a couple of nights if you don’t eat it all at once. I add a small amount of garden chives too!!
If you are bored of eating pumpkin soup, then freeze it and reheat at some later stage. I also add some of the soup to a puree of sweet potato too. Overall totally delish!!
Finally the superfood characteristics are:
The distinctive bright orange colour of pumpkin indicates it's an excellent source of that all-important antioxidant beta-carotene. Research shows that people who eat a diet rich in beta-carotene are less likely to develop certain cancers than those who fail to include beta-carotene-rich foods in their diet. Pumpkin also has another carotenoid, beta-cryptoxanthin, which may decrease the risk of lung cancer in smokers.

What is it you are really needing in your life to satisfy an ‘physio-emotional’ need.
Look at the foods, deficits and behaviors in your life that are the underlying causes of your cravings. Many people view cravings as weakness, but really they are important messages meant to assist you in maintaining balance. When you experience a craving, deconstruct it. Ask yourself, what does my body want and why?
The eight primary causes of cravings are:
1. Lack of primary food. Being dissatisfied with a relationship or having an inappropriate exercise routine (too much, too little or the wrong type), being bored, stressed, uninspired by a job, or lacking a spiritual practice may all cause emotional eating.
2. Water. Lack of water can send the message that you are thirsty and on the verge of dehydration. Dehydration can manifest as a mild hunger, so the first thing to do when you get a craving is drink a full glass of water.
3.Yin/yang imbalance. Certain foods have more yin qualities (expansive) while other foods have more yang qualities (contractive).
4. Inside coming out. Often times, cravings come from foods that we have recently eaten, foods eaten by our ancestors, or foods from our childhood.
5. Seasons. Often the body craves foods that balance the elements of the season.
6. Lack of nutrients. If the body has inadequate nutrients, it will produce odd cravings.
7. Hormones. When women experience menstruation, pregnancy or menopause, fluctuating testosterone and estrogen levels may cause unique cravings.
8. De-evolution. When things are going extremely well, sometimes a self-sabotage syndrome happens. We crave foods that throw us off, thus creating more cravings to balance ourselves.
From an integrative nutrition stand point the emotional relationship we have with food can either allow us to be fully rounded and satisfied human beings or ‘ humans going no-where’.
Sometimes too we might need to replace lost minerals from our biosystem too. For-instance a need for magnesium might be a craving for chocolate but rather than going down that slippery slope why not go after raw nuts and seeds, legumes, fruits which will not only meet the need for mag but also satisfy any sugar craving as well.
Phosphorous, sulfur, iron and salt (NaCl) needs might send you off to coffee and tea yet a good and regular diet of chicken, beef, liver, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy, nuts, legumes along with seaweed, greens, black cherries might just be the answer. Without doubt food and emotions are linked.

Dense rich nutrients are not necessarily a good thing. They will confuse the ‘digestive brain’. After all food is just nutritional data programmed by nature to release to the body certain nutrients which it requires in order to maintain and sustain life.
Over-burden the gut with too much ‘data’ and it just will not recognise the value or worth of certain foods and excrete it right out the other end. Not only is this a waste of energy on the body’s behalf, it’s a total waste of money on your behalf. So too the carbon excesses which arise from wasted nutrients.
Take a look at the ingredient list of this un-named American superfood (read super-confused) product which contains nearly 100 ingredients, enzymes or derivatives. This is gut blowing stuff!!
Ingredients:
Orac-Intense Fruits & Berries: Juice and whole powders from: Acai, GojilWolfberry, Noni, Mangosteen, Blackberry, Blueberry, Bilberry, Elderberry, Cranberry, Raspberry, Black Currant, Pomegranate, Strawberry, Hawthorne Berry, Papaya, Acerola Cherry, Peach, Pineapple, Cherry, Orange, Lemon and Prune in a base of Apple, Purple Grape, Pear and Banana.
Nutrient-Dense Vegetable & Green Blend: Juice and whole powders from: Carrot, Beet, Barley Leaf, Alfalfa Leaf, Sweet Potato, Spinach, Asparagus, Brussels Sprout, Kale, Cauliflower, Dunaliella Salina, Broccoli, Cucumber, Celery, Bell Pepper, Wheat Leaf, Oat Leaf, Klamath Lake Algae, Spirulina, Chlorella, Kelp, Dulse, Cabbage, Tomato, Squash, and Parsley.
Seeds Plus: Chia Seed, Flax Seed, Pumpkin Seed, Brown Rice, Aloe Vera, SOD (superoxide dismutase) and Yucca.
..and the list goes on to well over 100 single or derived ingredients…
The ingredients may sound quite fashionable and one might become quite excited by this veritable cocktail of goodies, but guess what? This ingredient list is like giving your laptop 100 commands at once and we know what would happen should this occur. The lap top freezes because it cannot sequentially process each command in a manner that enables you to get to .doc A or .doc B or file or folder X or Y, fast. Same happens in the gut. Over command and the gut goes into a state of ‘freeze’. It stops processing and instantly wants to ‘abort’ the nutritional commands you have over burdened it with and it starts to dump data as quickly as possible, right out of your bowel.
So my advice: ‘Simple is sound and self serving’. Eat also local foods which have been handled very little. That’s why buying from a farmers markets is a must nowadays.
Also take a look at a very ‘SIMPLE and SELF SERVING’ Australian SuperFood which is far from confused. The Australian Rain Plum is one of the ‘Princes of Australian functional foods’. It’s a red, ‘Pure red and only red’. Crystallised powder is derived from the Plum widely recognised for its health giving qualities.
The iLifeFoods AuraGold Farms Australian Rain Plum is the only brand of it’s kind which matches and in some nutritional categories, exceeds, the mass media versions of Acai and Goji Berry and a recently released product from the ‘already under pressure Amazon Basin ecosystem, the Incaberry. Ok tongue in cheek but recent media suggested locals had been eating this for centuries. Well the Australian Rain Plum, or Ooray as it is known to local Aborigines, dates back tens of thousands of years, one of the oldest botanical genesis in Australia. It formed part of the nutritional intake of the Widjabul people who roamed around the back of ByronBay in Australia’s Northern New South Wales.
The Rain Plum contains a staggering 8220mg/100g of the antioxidant Anthocyanin not to mention an array of other very powerful vitamins and minerals.
You can buy ‘Simple and Self Serving’ now with just ONE, yes ONE valuable ingredient; Australian Rain Plum. In fact when we undertook studies of the attributes of this Australian Superfruit the consulting scientist described the results as ‘extraordinary’– more than 10X the Anthocyanin normally found in a Blueberry.
You may buy this amazing Australian Superfood now for use on its own, mixed with juices or added to smoothies or food.
The big difference between this SuperFood and others is YOU know where it comes from – here it is either wild harvested in a sustainably managed environment or orchard grown.
It is only sold online or through farmers markets on the South East of Queensland, Australia.
We know where this comes from and we know what it can do. We can’t tell you everything but I use it daily and dozens of our customers swear by it : OMG !!!

Here is a recipe from Carolina who lives on the Shinshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. If you are in need of an energy boost or some extra alkalinity from the Beetroot, at the same time some natural occuring sweetness from the Sweet Potato then do have a go at this really easy recipe. All ingredients are available fresh from your local farmers market.
You will need:
1 small white onion diced
3-4 large beetroots (250g)
1 large sweet potato
1-2 tsp cummin seeds
1.25l vegetable stock
2 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
3 tbsp sunflower oil
coriander (cilantro) as garnish
sour cream if desired
Preparation:
Gently heat the oil in a large saucepan. Add the onions and sweat until tender (5 mins should do it). Add in the cumin seeds and allow to infuse for a minute.
Meanwhile, chop the beetroot and sweet potato into cubes. Add to the onions and stir briefly.
Add the stock and gently simmer for 15-20 minutes (until the beetroot is soft). Remove from the heat and blend with a hand held blender.
Return to the hob, add the apple cider vinegar and some chopped coriander leaves. Serve immediately.

Virtually everywhere now you will be subjected to products which can contribute to the deterioration of the human immune system.
Each year Americans drink the equivalent of nearly 600 cans of soda
(soft) drink each containing an average of ten, yes that’s 10, teaspoons
of refined white sugar.Similiar per capita data exists for Australia.
Every day the Coca Cola Company sells in excess of one billion cans
of soft drink on Planet Earth. Each can contains an average of ten
teaspoons of pure refined white sugar along with a range of other
nefarious chemicals, most shown to lead to premature death as a result
of numerous avoidable illnesses. (Put aside the affects of aluminium
mining for the moment)
Here is what happens to your body for a full 60 minutes after you
have consumed a can of Coca Cola. This is frightening so hold onto your
seat:
In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your
system. You don’t immediately
vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the
flavour allowing you to keep it down. 20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst.
Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on
into fat. (There’s plenty of that at this particular moment) 40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dilate,
your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar
into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now
blocked preventing drowsiness. 45 minutes: Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating
the pleasure centres of your brain. This is physically the same way
heroin works, by the way. 60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and
zinc in your lower intestine, providing a further boost in metabolism.
This is compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also
increasing the urinary excretion of calcium. >60 Minutes: The caffeine’s diuretic properties come into
play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you’ll evacuate
the bonded calcium, magnesium and zinc that were headed to your bones
as well as sodium, electrolyte and water. >60 minutes: As the rave inside of you dies down you’ll start
to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You’ve
also now, literally, pee'd away all the water that was in the Coke. But
not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used
for things like even having the ability to hydrate your system or build
strong bones and teeth.
Let’s take a look at some of the other major components of a can of soft drink:
Phosphoric Acid: This can interfere with the body's ability to
utilise calcium, which may lead to osteoporosis ( and thinning of bone
density) and softening of the teeth.
Sugar: It is a proven fact sugar can increase insulin levels, which may
lead to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes,
weight gain, premature aging and other side effects. Most soft drinks
include over 100 percent of the RDA of sugar. Take the Ayurvedic
approach- a balance of sweet, sour and savoury. Suagr is also know to 'feed' the acidic needs of cancer related fungus and bacteria. Have cancer ?? Remove all high GI related sugars from your diet.
Aspartame: This chemical is used as a sugar substitute in diet soft
drinks. There are nearly 100 documented health side effects associated
with aspartame consumption including brain tumors, birth defects,
diabetes, emotional disorders and epilepsy/seizures.
Caffeine: Caffeinated drinks can cause jitters, insomnia, high blood
pressure, irregular heartbeat, elevated blood cholesterol levels,
vitamin and mineral depletion and may cause breast lumps, birth defects,
and perhaps some forms of cancer.
I see dozens of people each week, most looking for easily obtainable
solutions to health issues. My response comes from my Integrative Nutrition training ; find balance in diet and focus more on the
re-schooling the body’s gene nutrition with not only healthy ALKALINE
based foods but also concentrated antioxidant based Superfoods and drinks.

The power of the tropical fruit can only be described as awesome!! The
Green Papaya or Paw Paw contains very high levels of the enzyme called papain - also known as papaya proteinase I .
Since time immemorial the Paw Paw, sometimes called Papaya (carica papaya),
has been at the centre of options for healing solutions, but more importantly a
staple diet for many of the planets tropical indigenous peoples. Papain is the
living enzyme within the flesh of both a green and ripe Paw Paw, however the
green paw paw is known to have higher amounts of papain and lower amounts of
naturally occurring sugars where-as a ripe paw paw has the reverse.
The papaya (from Carib via Spanish), papaw or pawpaw is the fruit of the plant Carica papaya, in the genus Carica.
It is native to the tropics of the Americas, and was first cultivated
in Mexico several centuries before the emergence of the Mesoamerican
classic cultures.
Carica papaya was the first fruit tree to have its genome deciphered.
Paw Paw -Papaya TreeMature Green Papaya showing white seeds
Papain is also known as a proteolytic enzyme- a protein scavenger and is
being used for both internal and external healing purposes. Internally
as a food supplement to aid in the process of digestion and 'protein
breakdown' in the stomach prior to the chyme (food slurry) entering the
small intestine - and externally as a paste or lotion to assist in the
healing of skin affected by burns, septic ruptures or infected sores.
Without doubt this has to be the
'fruit of the moment' - I estimate 1 in every 2 people - perhaps more
than 50% of the entire population experience digestion problems arising
from an over consumption of protein - too much red meat, pork, chicken
and heavy proteins like cheeses etc. This can bring about gastric
reflux, heartburn, indigestion and general digestive discomfort.
Introducing a small amount of green papaya powder seems to aid in the
break down of difficult to digest foodtypes.
In my own case, 40 years of chronic
gastric reflux was relieved the very first night I began taking green
papaya powder so much so that after a while I began to feel normal
again. I did however recognise that a diet of dairy products whilst
growing up in New Zealand did not help my digestion. I no longer need
dairy products nor heavy red meat proteins, but the effects of taking
green papaya have been immeasurable largely because all my food now is
fully broken down thus my asorption levels have increased. This means my
body is being 'fed' efficiently by the nutrients my intestine is now
absorbing. My kidneys, liver and cardiovascular functions are great and I
have so much more energy. I have no aches or pains in my muscles or
joints because there is no acid build up any longer.
Check out the iLifeFoods Green Papaya Powder which is 100% Australian and pesticide free. We use the green
skin, flesh and seeds in our product. We also add 5% of the Australian
Rain Plum which adds a small antioxidant boost to the powder. You can
take it any time but it seems to work better with the main meal of the
day - ususally dinner time which means the stress comes out of your
digestive metabolism, food is digested and nutrients absorbed better
during sleeping hours. BUY HERE !!
and if you have any further questions about the roll green papaya
powder can play in your life and good health, please don't hesitate to send me a message.

When
did you last look at exactly what you were eating and what is
motivating you to eat? Are you being enticed by the colourful
advertising by the major supermarkets and perhaps choosing foods that
aren’t in your best interest?
There certainly is a lot of ‘food confusion’ existing
right now and in our busy life it is probably a good time to stop and
ask yourself some questions about food and your lifestyle..
•Can you eat out less and prepare more of your own food ?
•Can you be sharing more food in a 'sit-down' environment with friends or family?
•Are you eating to support your immediate and long-term health needs?
These may appear basic questions to some of you but for others this 'food confusion'exists.
For instance mainstream media does not promote an awareness around the need to take in a range of 'leafy green vegetables' daily.
The
whole idea of raw food, light on protein ie. less heavy red meats, pork
and cheeses, along with a mix of healthy grains ie. more wheat free!!
is abhorrent to mainstream media because of the need to continue to
support an industry and an agenda based food pyramid.
So its time now to step into your own 'food power' and maybe say 'enough is enough'!!!
Here are some great ways to become really empowered around your immediate and long term health.
Reach out and ask more questions of your friends and family, read more, sign up for food newsletters or online blogs.
When in doubt 'Google' for information which sits right for you.
Download the 80/20 Alkaline/Acid Food Chart at the bottom of the page.
Also consider spending a couple of hours either a Saturday or Sunday morning shopping at your local farmer's or producer markets
Food Focus: Greens
Leafy
greens are some of the easiest and most beneficial vegetables to
incorporate into your daily routine. Densely packed with energy and
nutrients, they grow upward to the sky, absorbing the sun’s light while
producing oxygen. Members of this royal green family include kale,
collard greens, Swiss chard, mustard greens, arugula, dandelion greens,
broccoli rabe, watercress, beet greens, bok choy, green cabbage, spinach
and broccoli. Right now at your local farmers market crinkly leaf green
kale is available. In fact you might be interested in knowing that kale
is number 2 after garlic in the antioxidant stakes!!!
How do greens
benefit our bodies? They are very high in calcium, magnesium, iron,
potassium, phosphorous and zinc, and are a powerhouse for vitamins A, C,
E and K. They are crammed full of fibre, folic acid, chlorophyll and
many other micronutrients and phytochemicals. Their green colour is
because of chlorophyll levels - sometimes known as liquid sunshine.
In
traditional Asian medicine, the color green is related to the liver,
emotional stability and creativity. Greens aid in purifying the blood,
strengthening the immune system, improving liver, gall bladder and
kidney function, fighting depression, clearing congestion, improving
circulation and keeping your skin clear and blemish free.
Leafy
greens are the vegetables most missing from the average diet, and now
you can learn how to prepare them. Start with the very simple recipe
below. Then each time you go to the market, pick up a new green to try.
Soon you’ll find your favorite greens and wonder how you ever lived
without them.

As the currant situation at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear reactors remains uncertain it is entirely conceivable that ‘fall-out’ will spread around the world via the multitude of ‘jet streams’ which traverse the planet daily.
Already small amounts of radiation is being detected in the United States. Some of this though may have been pre-existing and it is only the Fukushima ‘event’ which has people looking a little closer at the puddles in their back yards.
But all is not lost and no need for despair. Right now you can start to do things which strengthen the body’s defence mechanisms. There are ways to beat the ‘radiation bogy-man’ using 100% natural means!!
Lycopeneis derived from processed tomatoes and is shown very clearly in a range of clinical trials and research papers to be a major naturally occurring ‘bio-antiradiation’ agent.
Lycopene is by far the strongest antioxidant found in carotenoids. Its antioxidant effect is 100 times stronger than vitamin E and is highly regarded within scientific circles as an antioxidant capable of protecting the body from radiation – man made or solar based.
Lycopene’s affects are so good that doctors even suggest that supplements should not be used when a patient is being administered chemotherapy or radiation treatment to remove cancers from the body. The very ‘agent’, in a natural form, is suggested by traditional people as being disruptive to harsh radiation and chemotherapy cancer treatments. You make your own call on which direction you would like to go with that information.
However, there is a growing body of evidence that says lycopene supplements act as a positive precursor to helping the biosystem to remain strong in the face of high levels of radiation.
Ironically, one Japanese trial, suggests beyond doubt that Lycopene can limit the amount of damage occurred by radiotherapy treatment. Radiation is taken into the body either via the skin or ingested in food particles. Here is a link to that evidence.
When you read conclusions that read like this, it makes one feel very satisfied that there is yet another naturally occurring agent which we can look at either reintroducing or taking into our bodies in increasing levels:
“Thus, our result shows that pre-treatment with lycopene offers protection to normal lymphocytes against γ-radiation-induced cellular damage”
Not only is a lycopene supplement good for managing radiation issues it is also recognised for its ability to work on other issues facing the human body. Check this link out from a previously created story:
Australian based iLifeFoods, is the sole outlet for the AuraGold Farms brand of concentrated Lycopene crystals derived from 100% pesticide free Australian tomatoes. Designed to offer the user a single serve sachet, this natural antioxidant tomato based product has been laboratory tested and shown to contain 3,500mg of Lycopene per 1 kg - far greater than the stated 800mg. This assay was conducted by Southern Cross University’s Centre for Photochemistry and Pharmacology. The contents of a 10g sachet of tomato crystal is simply added to water and taken like a concentrated tomato juice but with the added boost in lycopene levels.
